Emir Lewis becomes Editorial Consultant

Recently renowned editor EMIR LEWIS has become an Editorial Consultant for "White: A Study in Color":

Having a built an exceptional editing career over the years, Emir Lewis recently made a successful entrée into the producer's chair which garnered him an Emmy nomination for the PBS special, In The Footsteps of Marco Polo (2008). Emirʼs long list of editing credits span documentaries, tv series, and feature films beginning with Slam (1998) which received two prestigious awards, the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Cannesʼ Camera Dʼor Winner. In addition, several of the documentaries edited by Emir received high honors such as HBOʼs O.J. – A Story in Black & White (2003 Emmy winner), PBSʼ Two Towns of Jasper (2003 DuPont and Peabody Awards), and Nickelodeon/MTV Networksʼ I Sit Where I Want- The Legacy of Brown v. Board (2005 Parentsʼ Choice Award). Emir will continue editing, producing and directing for a range of media projects and genres.

White: A Study in Color

Both a personal memoir and a sociological study, “White: A Study in Color” is a documentary/essay about what it means to be white in America. Inverting the lens through which race relations are customarily viewed, “White: A Study in Color” examines what it means to be part of the white majority in a nation undergoing rapid change. From the Obama ascendancy to the predictions of population demographers that by the year 2042 whites will become America’s largest minority, the very notion of being white is ripe for scrutiny: where has ‘white’ come from, and where is it going?

The film is being produced with support from the Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media; the New York State Council for the Arts; the New Jersey City University Foundation; and private donations.

A first rough cut was completed in July, 2008; a second cut was completed during a residency at the MacDowell Colony in August, 2009.
